Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySYLVIA DOREEN GREEN (nee DAVIS) On Thursday, November 23, 2006, at the Grace Hospital, Doreen took God's hand and left this earth to be with loved ones who went before her. Doreen's memory is cherished by her adoring children: Richard (Francene) of Ottawa, Paul (Barbara) of Kennebunk, Maine, Jim (Victoria) of Wilmington, NC, Marilyn of Winnipeg, and Cindy (Robert) of Winnipeg; a loving grandmother to Courtney Carolyn, Michael, Robert, Erin, Jason, Kelly, Holly. In her twilight years, the light of her life, were her grandsons Jonathan and Zachary to whom she was a special nana. Doreen also had many treasured great-grandchildren. In addition, Doreen is survived by four siblings: Muriel Reilly and Audrey Davis of Winnipeg, Ralph Davis and Reg Davis of British Columbia. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, siblings Leonard and Enid, and granddaughter Pamela. Her life's journey began on May 12, 1924, born to Elizabeth Mae and Reginald Davis in Winnipeg. Mom always described her childhood years as being harsh, growing-up in the depression. Doreen left high school early to go to work for the War effort, working at MacDonald Aircraft painting varnish on airplane wings and working a bullet-making machine in a Toronto factory. During that time she met a young sergeant, by the name of Donald Green, stationed in Shiloh, MB. Mom told us it was love at first sight. They met at the dance hall in Grand Beach, MB. Don offered to buy her an orange crush and the romance began. They were married on October 16, 1944. They quickly began a family and worked and lived in Winnipeg until the 1960s. Over the next several years, the family moved to Vancouver, BC; Seattle, Washington; Syracuse, NY; and Guelph, ON until Don's death in 1977. At that time, Doreen decided to move back to Winnipeg, where she remained until her death. Doreen's pride and joy was her family and openly admitted that she never regretted forgoing a career to be a wife and mother. She was very proud of her family and never hesitated to remind us. Mom gave her children numerous gifts, like spirituality, integrity, a determined attitude and above all a wonderful sense of humor - she taught us how to laugh at ourselves and life itself. Doreen's giving nature and the unconditional love that she showered upon her family and stranger's alike will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1 at 4:00 p.m. in The Unity Church, 300-302 Arlington Street, Winnipeg. The family would like to provide a special thank you to the 3rd floor staff at the Grace Hospital for the compassionate care that they provided to our mother and to the family in our time of need. Doreen's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 4665
