HELEN MARJORY POWELL On November 26, 2006, Helen Marjory Powell, surrounded by the love of her family and friends, passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. She was the cherished wife of E. Gary Powell. Helen was predeceased by Gary in 1973, parents, Ida and John Curle, and her sister and brother-in-law, Eldred and Hugh Bancroft. She was a treasured daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Helen was born on November 29, 1916, and grew up on Grosvenor Ave. She attended Grosvenor, Gordon Bell, and Kelvin High Schools. She married Gary on September 12, 1941. In 1957 they bought their cottage at Falcon Lake, which for 49 years has been the place family and friends have gathered for so many memorable occasions. Helen valued her family and friends, her community and Church. She initiated the school library at Tuxedo School and served as the first woman trustee on the first Tuxedo School Board which established Laidlaw School and Shaftesbury High School. Her faith in God's love sustained her through her life. She was a Life Member of the United Church Women at Westworth United Church. Left to celebrate her rich life are her children, Ted Powell (Carol), Jane Fudge, Barbara Magarrell (Kent), and Sue Hurlbut (Bob). She also leaves her grandchildren, Greg Crawford, Dan Powell, Ashley, Garth, and Darcy Fudge, Alexa, Ian, and Kathryn Magarrell, and Trent and Tyler Hurlbut. We are so grateful for the compassionate care given to our Mother at the hospital A celebration of Helen's life will be held on Friday, December 1, at 2 p.m., at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Boniface Hospital, the Westworth United Church Memorial Fund, or a charity of your choice.
