GEORGE (MICK) BLAND It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather with his family by his side on November 27, 2006 at Seven Oaks Hospital. He was 96 years of age. George was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Doris. He is survived by his daughter Carole (Charles) Stewart; granddaughters, Mandy and Fiona (Duane) and a very special great-granddaughter Ella. He leaves relatives in England, Australia and the United States. George was born in July of 1910 in Beighton-Sheffield, England. He worked as a coal miner for 51 years, starting at the age of 14 years and retiring at age 65. George loved the outdoors, working in his garden and going on long walks. He was also an avid sports fan, enjoying everything from soccer to tennis. George came to Canada in 1989 at the age of 79 to live with his daughter and family. He was a resident of Luther Home for the past three years. Special thanks to all the staff at Luther Home for their wonderful care and compassion; and also to the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedics, emergency and nursing staff on Level 3, Unit 5 at Seven Oaks General Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2006, 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Anglican Church, 253 Burrin Ave., Winnipeg. Rev. Simon Blaikie officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Luther Home, 1081 Andrews St., Winnipeg, MB R2V 2G9. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main St. 338-7111
