ERNEST KROMERI Ernest passed away peacefully at the age of 84 years on November 30, 2006 at the Victoria General Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife Helga in 1991 and his brother Ralph in 1988. At the age of 16 he went to Regina and joined the Army where he became an instructor in weapons and signals. Shortly after, he went to Italy with the Artillery. He left the service in 1945 to take up construction, later operating his own business. Desiring a change he went to work for the Department of National Defense from which he retired in 1975. Many years of his retirement were spent at his cottage in Breezy Point, frequently wintering in Texas. In his younger days he was an avid photographer and spent many relaxing hours in his dark room developing films. Many pleasant hours were spent fishing and cooking at which he was very good. Daily, Ernest could be seen riding his three wheel bike around the neighbourhood, chatting along the way with friends. A long time Legion member, Ernest was instrumental in getting a patio built in memory of his brother Ralph. His concern for others is manifested in his generous donations to the Winnipeg Foundation and the Selkirk and District Community Foundation. Cremation has taken place and a remembrance service will be held on Tuesday, December 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
