ELMA BERGEN (nee KLASSEN) July 1, 1935 - December 1, 2006 On Friday December 1 2006, surrounded by her loved ones, Elma Bergen passed away peacefully at the Selkirk Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Elma will be forever loved and remembered by her husband Wilhelm (Bill) Bergen; daughters, Sandra Derksen from Calgary, Karen Maguire (Blair) from St. Albert, and son Scott Bergen (Nicole) from Winnipeg. Elma is also survived by seven grandchildren, Chris, Kevin, Steven, Duncan, Stephanie, Shannon, and Sara; and four great-grandchildren, Elise, Dakota, Tyler, and Nathan. Elma is survived by three sisters, Mary, Anne, and Kay; one brother Jake. She was predeceased by her parents, Deidrich and Helena Klassen, brothers John, Dick, Henry, and sisters Helen, Susan, and Agnes. Elma was born and raised in Pansy, Manitoba where she lived until 1948 when she moved to Winnipeg. Elma and Bill were married in 1954 and lived in Elmwood raising their children. In 1987 they moved into the Cooks Creek area, and most recently reside in East Selkirk. Elma spent most of her years as a homemaker, taking care of her family, tending her always expanding garden, and providing her family with a seemingly never ending supply of baked treats. Elma was also an excellent knitter and enjoyed cross-stitching, providing her family with many treasured mementos. In lieu of flowers donations in Elma's name can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB, R3E0V9. The family would like to thank the staff at Teulon Hospital and Selkirk Hospital for their loving care and attention. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 5 at 1:00 p.m., in the Coutu Chapel, 680 Archibald St. with interment to follow in St. Vital Cemetery.
