MARIA MARGARETE KUTKA It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Maria, at the age of 48 years. Her eight month personal and courageous battle with cancer ended on December 1, 2006 at the St. Boniface General Hospital with her family holding her. Maria's memory will be cherished by her Mom and Step-Dad, Hannelore and Andy Thanner, her sister Katarina (Randy) Brown, her brothers Stefan Jozef Kutka and Marek Kutka (Nancy Bettcher), her niece, Lauren Brown, grandmother Elisabeth Vollmer, Aunts Kate (John) Tydik and Elke Vollmer (Winne Sprotte), as well as cousins and friends. Maria was predeceased by her father Jozef Kutka, her Baba Margarete Rota, and Grandfather Wilhelm Vollmer. Maria was born on May 23, 1958 in . She graduated from the University of Winnipeg with honours before beginning her career in management. She later spent the majority of her professional life as an insurance underwriter in Winnipeg and Omaha. Maria was immensely generous with all those around her. She deeply cared for others, always putting their needs ahead of hers. This was especially evident during her illness as she privately shouldered the gravity of her illness and much of her suffering to spare her family. She loved animals, especially her little cat, and friend, Tiger. Maria also had a tremendous passion for travel and history. Special thanks are given to her oncologist, Dr. M. Krahn, and the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place and prayers will be held at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., on Wednesday, December 6 at 7:30 p.m. Maria's Funeral Mass will be take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 7 at St. Alphonsus Church, 341 Munroe Avenue, with lunch to follow. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maria's memory can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Road, Winnipeg, MB, R2L 1X3.
