Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHARINE PEARL COVE (nee IRWIN) May 20, 1914 to December 4, 2006 Catharine passed away peacefully at the Betel Home in Selkirk, Manitoba at the age of 92. The daughter of Thomas and Margaret Irwin (nee Spring), Catharine was born and raised at Belmont, Manitoba. She was predeceased by first husband David in 1936, and most recently by her second husband Walter in 1983. She was also predeceased by her daughter Cleo Raisin; sister Jane, and brothers, William, Archibald, Thomas, Stanley and Raymond. Catharine and Walter had moved from Brandon to the Selkirk area in the 1950s. She began working for the Selkirk Mental Health Centre in 1959, initially as a member of the housekeeping staff. Shortly thereafter, she joined the dietary staff working in the reception kitchen as a dietary aide. After many years of dedicated service and multiple promotions, she finally retired in 1979 as Head Cook for the Infirmary Hospital. In her retirement, Catharine was a loyal member of the Rebekah Lodge and enjoyed travelling the country to play whist and bowl in the company of her friends. Her greatest pleasure and joy in life was spending time with family and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Left to mourn her passing is her daughter Tranna; sons, David (Patricia) and Allen (Loretta); son-in-law John; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Her passing is also mourned by her sister Iva Shaw of Killarney and brother Lloyd Irwin of Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the staff of the Betel Home and Dr. Demsas for their kind and gentle care of Catharine. Prayers for family and friends will be held Thursday, December 7, 2006 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 8, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Clement's Anglican Church, Mapleton with the Ven. Godfrey Mawejje officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
