KATHERINE TOEWS (nee KROEKER) Katherine Toews of Steinbach, formerly of Winnipeg, passed away peacefully at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB on December 2, 2006 at the age of 84. Katherine was born April 1, 1922 in Steinbach. She married Levi Toews of Greenland, MB, on August 8, 1948. They celebrated 56 years of marriage. Katherine's greatest treasures were her husband, children and grandchildren. Her passion was her family and to be a helpmate to her husband. She wanted to show Jesus to those around her. Mum and Dad were very involved in the Braeside Evangelical Mennonite Church, serving as a deacon couple. They helped begin the Keenagers and sang with their choir for many years. Hospitality was her greatest gift family, friends and missionaries were welcome at her table. As a family they loved to travel visiting friends and relatives along the way. She enjoyed playing games Skipbo with the grandchildren and Scrabble with her sister Anne. She was a fierce competitor. She loved her garden and flowers and they gave her great pleasure as did berry picking and fishing in Kenora, ON. Cooking, baking and sewing for her family were a joy to her. Mum loved to sing and play guitar. Dad and Mum often sang as they traveled in the car. We know that when she reached those pearly gates her Heavenly Father said Well done my good and faithful servant! Katherine will be sadly missed by her three daughters, Deanna (Tim) Treadway, Daniel, Daryl, David of Kenora, ON; Gloria (Henry) Foth, Jason, Richard, Natalie of Abbotsford, BC and Dolores (Murray) Dunn, Nikki, Michael of Winnipeg, MB as well as her sister Anne (Arnold) Fast and brother Richard (Esther) Kroeker. Our sincere thanks to Woodhaven Home Care who helped us care so wonderfully for our Mum. Thank you as well to Dr. Karen Toews. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Braeside Evangelical Mennonite Church, 1011 Munroe, Winnipeg, with interment at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach. Donations in her memory may be made to Evangelical Mennonite Conference Missions, 440 Main St., Steinbach, MB R5G 1Z5 Arrangements by: Birchwood Funeral Chapel Steinbach Winnipeg, MB 1-888-454-1030 or 1-204-346-1030

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • To Deanna,Gloria, Dolores and families: Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow and yet celebration, knowing your mother is with the Lord now, Still, it's hard to say good-bye. Aunt Kay always had a special place in my heart since our extended trip to California when I was a little girl. I have fond memories of her and am so thankful that Eileen, Sylvia and I were able to come to Steinbach to help celebrate her birthday last year.
