ALEC DZUBA It is with great sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on December 5, 2006, at age 75, at Seven Oaks Hospital. Alec will be sadly missed by his wife Sofie; his loving children, Sandy (Rob), Brian (Jocelyn) and grandsons, Dylan, Marshal and Jordan; his sisters, Eileen and Alice and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Alec dearly. Alec was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Franka; brothers, John, William, Matt, Pete and Mike, and sisters, Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary, Anne and Kaye. Alec was a devout member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and an active member of the Order of St. Andrews. As a young man Alec commercial fished in Northern Manitoba before working for Sherritt Gordon Mines in Lynn Lake. It was while working in the North that Alec met the love of his life, Sofie. This past summer they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. After moving to Winnipeg, Alec worked as an auto mechanic at Eastern Sales for 25 years. Upon retirement he worked part time at the consistory of Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada. Alec will be remembered by his many friends and relatives, for his positive attitude and willingness to help those around him. During the last 15 years of his life, Alec displayed incredible courage, dignity and a love for life as he battled cancer. Alec loved to golf and grow tomatoes and had a special place in his heart for young children. The family would like to thank all the doctors and Oncology nurses at both Seven Oaks and St. Boniface Hospitals for the special care and support they offered him and his family and most recently to the nursing staff at Unit 7 in Seven Oaks Hospital for the special care given over the last few days of his life. Prayers will be said on Friday, December 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main Street. A Funeral Rite will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9 at 9:30 a.m. also at the Cathedral. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to either CancerCare Manitoba, 1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R2W 3S4.
