RICHARD ERIC STRAND 1953 - 2006 After a courageous battle with leukemia, Richard Eric Strand passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on December 5, 2006 with his loving family at his side. Left behind with many beautiful memories are his wife Terri-Lynn; daughter Leora (13) and son Eric (8). He is survived by his brother Ken (Shirley), and his matrimonial family of Terry and Jean McConnell, Randy (Sue), Calvin (Michelle) and Kathy Torgerson (Brad). There are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that mourn his loss and celebrate the love and spirit that Richard brought to their lives. He was predeceased by his father Christian; mother Astrid; sister Sharon, and brothers, Walter and Norman. Richard had many passions in his life - books, music (especially the Winnipeg Folk Festival where he volunteered for many years), continuous learning and lifelong friendships. He loved his family more than anything else and his greatest joy in life was being a husband and father. Richard was an amazing Dad and while pursuing his MBA, was able to spend treasured time with his kids as he juggled his studies, built Lego, played board games, read stories and cooked us gourmet meals. It was his love for his wife and children that made him fight his illness to the very end and we are thankful for the time we had with him. Richard taught us all how to never stop trying, to never quit and to face life's challenges with great strength and laughter. We did not walk this incredible yet painful journey with Richard alone as our hands were held tightly by many. We thank everyone for your understanding, your compassion and your friendship over these last four years. Special thanks to the doctors and staff at CancerCare Manitoba and GD-6 for their exceptional care and to MacDonald Youth Services where Richard was employed and very much appreciated their support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Bone Marrow Transplant Program at CancerCare Manitoba or to a trust fund for Richard's children at Cambrian Credit Union, 1068 Henderson Highway. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home on Friday, December 8 at 1:00 pm. Love you forever. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111

I am listening to a Gordon Lightfoot song that Richard taught me in at LCBI on his Raven guitar 33 years ago. Richard had a way of sharing important things like songs ,jokes, food and conversation with his friends that made me feel that life is ever a great adventure. That the ticket to joyful living can be readily obtained through spirited active participation in the good things that life offers with your friends. Richard did that so well for me. My heartfelt condolences to Terrylynn, Leora and Eric. Sincere regards and sympathy from Aron. - Posted by: Aron Johnson (Friend) on: Dec 08, 2006
