OTTO STANGL 1935 2006 Otto Stangl, beloved husband of Edna Stangl (nee Thiessen), passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Calgary on Sunday, December 3, 2006, at the age of 71. Otto was born in Moschendorf, Burgenland, Austria, January 10, 1935 and immigrated to Canada at the age of 19 to begin his career as a cabinet maker. In 1970 he started his own business named Elgin Cabinets in Winnipeg. Otto and his wife Edna retired in 1997 and moved to Calgary, AB. They enjoyed traveling to Texas during the winter months, where they had many friends, and they spent many summers in Austria visiting relatives and friends. Otto made friends everywhere he went. His interests were many, he loved politics, sports and had a sense of adventure throughout his life. Besides his loving wife of 42 years, he will be lovingly remembered by his children: son Robert, his wife Angela Mehmel of Winnipeg, MB and daughter Sandra, her husband Bryan Peterson of Calgary, AB; four grandchildren, that Opa loved very much, Atom, Kohl, M and Kiera. He is also survived by his brothers, Fritz (Renate) and Franz (Heide); sister Erna; cousins in Canada, Austria, America and many other relatives and friends. Otto was predeceased by his parents Franz and Karolina Stangl. At Otto's request cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut Street (corner of Wolseley Avenue), Winnipeg, MB on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. Memorial tributes may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200, 119 - 14 Street NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6.
