Aurel will be sadly missed by his loving wife Claire, of 62 years; his loving children, Gilbert (Linda), Lorraine Paquet, Patricia Anderson (Bob), Raymond (Monique), Colette Keefe (Eugene); grandchildren, David, Robert, Michelle, Martin, Ken, Chrissy, Sean, Michael, Bradley, Stefan, Sheena, Jolene, Chantel, Melodie, Danika, Justin; and great-grandchildren, Tristan, Brynn, Bryce, Jon, Elijah, Kaven, Zander, Amber and Holly. He also leaves his sisters, Carmel LaPlante-Cross (Gordon), Theresa Clement (Denis), Yvonne Boulet; brother Rodolphe Rudy (Doris), as well as many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jean and Romain and his sisters, Lucille and Odile. Aurel was born in Saint-Lupicin, Manitoba on July 16, 1925. At the age of 17 Aurel moved to Winnipeg to work as a waiter for C.N.R. In 1946, Aurel started his 45 year career at Taché Nursing Centre. As a cook, baker and later Director of Dietetics, he will be forever remembered for his outstanding compassion, love and dedication towards all the patients at Taché. Aurel will be mostly remembered for his daily visits with the patients to personalize their daily meals. Known for his culinary talents, Aurel opened his home and entertained with food and wine, especially his cream puff swans and his special fudge. As a man of great faith, he touched many lives and saw good in everyone. He inspired many that crossed his path and had patience with all. Aurel was always generous, full of love, life and laughter. He was a devoted and dedicated husband and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Palliative Care at Riverview Health Centre as well as Dr. Gorski and Dr. Pat Harris and the entire staff of Oncology at the Concordia Hospital for their professional and compassionate care. We would like to express a special thanks to Alice Fontaine for the years of dedication and support towards both Mom and Dad. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 11 at Précieux-Sang Roman Catholic Church, 200 Kenny Street. Viewing will take place at 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.
