GWEN SMITH (nee HALL) Peacefully, in Ottawa, on Sunday, December 3, 2006, with her children at her side. Predeceased by her husband Eldon of 60 years. She is missed and lovingly remembered by son Peter (Annette); daughter Wendy Hurst (Jock); granddaughters, Lisa (Toby), Kathleen, Amy and Marnie; great-granddaughter Kaydance; sister Mary Grant; niece Debbie Winterton (Curtis) and nephew John Fleming (Jane). Predeceased by sister Dorothy Fleming. Born in Oak River, MB, Gwen Winnifred Hall graduated from Kelvin High School in Winnipeg, and followed her sister and father into the Bank of Montreal, where she met her future husband Eldon. Married in Charlottetown in 1943, they spent the war years in Montreal. Gwen magically turned houses into homes, as the family moved to various cities, including Winnipeg, Regina and Glendale, CA. She was an active volunteer in various guilds at St. George's Anglican Church, whenever the bank brought her back to Winnipeg. She was especially dedicated to Winnipeg's Meals-on-Wheels, which recognized Gwen and Eldon's 30 years of delivering meals in the community. Gwen and her granddaughters shared a special bond, and her eldest, Lisa, travelled from Cold Lake, AB, so Grandma, in the last weeks of her life, could hold and pass that special love on to her first great-grandchild. The family would like to thank the staff at Ottawa's Central Park Lodge, who provided loving and compassionate care during the past three years. The family would like to invite friends to join them in a celebration of Gwen's caring and compassionate life at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27 in the chapel at St. George's Crescentwood Anglican Church, 168 Wilton St. (at Grosvenor). neil bardal inc. 949-2200
