Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY ELIZABETH ARKSEY (nee VEREB) 1933 - 2006 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law and friend, Mary Elizabeth Arksey on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at the age of 72 years. Mary will be missed and lovingly remembered by her son Brian; daughter Susan (Darcy Hjelmeland); granddaughters, Sarah, Maya and Ella; step-granddaughter Waverly Hjelmeland; her only sibling Joe (Velma); aunts, Fina and Alice; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law and long time friend Joyce Kenning. Mary was predeceased by her husband William in 1989, and her parents, Joe and Helen Vereb. Born in Lakeland, MB on December 15, 1933 to Joseph Sr. and Helen (Lasson), Mary attended North Lakeland School. She took a secretarial course at Success Business College in Winnipeg and secured employment with the Stock Exchange. On October 18, 1958 she married William Eric George (Billy) Arksey, youngest son of William Sr. and Sarah (Isfeld) Arksey. Together they raised their two children, Brian and Susan. As the years passed, Mary went to work as a ward clerk at the Misercordia Hospital a position she held for 18 years until retiring. Mary led an active life, always keeping herself busy. She joined a weekly bowling club where she made many wonderful friends. She and lifelong friend Joyce made regular fun filled trips to Minnesota, where they spent hours laughing as they tried their hand at gambling. As grandchildren came along she became a devoted grandmother spending much of her time with the three girls. Mary will be remembered for her sense of humour, her ready made smile and her strength and courage. When Mary became ill, her life changed dramatically. As always, she fought the long battle with grace, dignity and never a complaint. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, December 15 at 2:00 p. m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles Street, Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. Msgr. Maurice Comeault, P.H., V.F., presiding. A private family interment will be held in Langruth Cemetery at a later date.
