DOUGLAS September 28, 1916 - December 5, 2006 Surrounded by his family, Bert Douglas passed away at Lions Personal Care Centre at the age of 90 years. Born September 28, 1916 in Kilmarnock, Scotland, Bert came to Canada in 1919. He was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth; brother James, and sister Jean. Bert attended Cecil Rhodes and Daniel McIntyre Schools in Weston. Bert married the former Edna Mae Martin in July 1944. While in Winnipeg, he worked at the Winnipeg Press Club and Commercial Storage, before moving to Alberta with Edna in 1970. Following retirement from Chevron Standard in Calgary, AB, they moved to Kelowna, BC, returning to Winnipeg in 2000 to be closer to family. Bert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Edna; his daughter Lynda Unfried (Bruce) of Winnipeg; his son Brian (Diane) of Delta, BC; grandchildren, Curtis (Leanne) and Christa Unfried of Winnipeg, Lee (Judy) Douglas of Parker, CO, John (Evette), Shane, and Devon Hainsworth of Delta, BC; great-grandchildren, Marissa Unfried, and Nicholas and Arielle Douglas. Memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bert's memory should be made to: Department of Recreation, Lions Personal Care Center, 320 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2W6. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the 2nd floor staff at the Lions Personal Care Centre for their care and concern at this difficult time.
