Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN BOYCHAK Peacefully, on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Deer Lodge Hospital, John Boychak, aged 87 years of Winnipeg. John was born on August 18, 1919 in the town of Pomoniaty, near Ivano-Frankivsk in Ukraine. He finished high school, but to continue his education was simply too expensive. At the age of 14, his friends taught him how to read music and he became a musician. He played for weddings and other occasions. In 1940, he married a girl from Nova Hrebla where they lived for 2 1/2 years. After his wife passed away in 1944, John joined the Ukrainian Army as a radio operator and served around all of Europe, from Slovakia to Yugoslavia, then Austria, Belgium, Italy, and finally England, where he married Maria (Mizzi). In 1953, they came to Canada and Winnipeg became their new home. John actively involved himself in various Ukrainian organizations. He belonged to Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Institute Prosvita, Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 141, Ukrainian National Federation, and of course, Ukrainian Ridna Shkola. He also belonged firstly to Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church and later the Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga. He was a special man with a warm heart and dedicated love to his church, language and culture. In 1987, his wife passed away and his health started to deteriorate. He leaves behind his only son, beloved John Andrew, his family in Ukraine and friends in Canada. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 11 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 12, also at the Cathedral with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating.
