MARGARET IDA HUGGINS On Thursday, December 7, 2006, Margaret Ida Huggins passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 89. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by son Richard (Jeanette) of Rockwood, Manitoba, her daughter Elaine (David) Moran, and family; Wendy Pither, Hollie, Emma, Alana and James and great-great grandson Noah, Tim (Donna) Moran, Andrew and Jason of Winnipeg, Laurie (Larry) Chomyn, Emily and Jessica of 100 Mile House, BC, sister Viola of California and nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1997, parents Hugo and Cecilia Wiesner, sisters Helen Termeer (Lou), Lena Verhoef (Tom) and brother William (Ivy). Margaret was born in Winnipeg, December 23, 1916 at their north end family home. Margaret was active in sports in her younger years. She was captain of the Altomah City Championship Basketball Team. She loved handicrafts, especially anything to do with sewing. Margaret also made most of her own clothes as well as clothing for her children and many other family members. Margaret worked part-time for Sears Canada as a sewing instructor until her retirement. Margaret and Charlie were active Square Dancers for over 35 years and active supporters of the Manitoba Square Dance Federation. They assisted in organizing the Crocus Festival for several years. Margaret became well known in local circles for her skills as a Square Dance caller. She was guest caller at many events around the city and province. She had an impressive array of Square Dance dresses, all designed and handcrafted by herself. Margaret was an active member of the Bleak House Seniors Centre for many years, assisting in organizing many of their social events. She enjoyed her Monday bowling at Mosienko Lanes in winter as well as her Lawn Bowling at Vince Leah during the summer. The lunches and social time she spent with the Lunch Bunch at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church were always highlights in her week. Margaret, Charlie and family were great lovers of the outdoors. While their children were growing up they spent most summer weekends camping and fishing in the Whiteshell or on Lake Winnipeg. When the family grew up they built a small cottage close to friends on Lee River. After retirement Margaret and Charlie travelled throughout Canada and the US and cruised to Alaska, the Caribbean, Panama and the North Sea countries. After Charlie's passing, Margaret continued enjoying most summer weekends at their cottage doing jigsaw puzzles, playing Aggravation and enjoying time with her family, especially her great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 11, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 12, at 11:00 a.m. with viewing half hour prior to the service, also at the Chapel. The Rev. Mary Lysecki will officiate. Cremation will follow the service with a private family interment service to follow.
