KAETHE REMPEL On December 8, 2006, Kaethe Rempel died peacefully at the age of 84 at Donwood Manor in Winnipeg. Born in Liebenau, Ukraine to Heinrich and Maria Gaede, she was displaced to Germany in 1941, and arrived in Canada as a refugee in 1947. Here she married her childhood sweetheart Jacob (Jasch) Rempel in 1949 and they were happily married for 38 years. The Christian faith was very important to them, as was the Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church. After Jacob's death in 1988, Kaethe enjoyed her community at Kingsfordhaus until 2005 when she was placed into personal care. Her family is grateful for the wonderful care she received at Donwood Manor in her last year. She was pre-deceased by her son, Heinz-Albert, her husband, Jacob, and her sister, Lena Strecker. Mourning her passing are her children: Peter (Elsie) Rempel, Helene (Jake) Harms, and Anni (Peter) Enns, grandchildren Marcus (Jenn Nast-Kolb), Daniel (Maggie Nighswander), and Miriam Rempel; Lisa, Colin, and Marc Harms; and Luke Enns, and great-granddaughters Johanna and Sophia Nast-Kolb. She is also survived by two brothers (Heinrich and Peter) and a sister (Manja Schneider) in Germany and one brother-in-law (Hans) in Manitoba, and their families. The funeral service will be Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church with viewing before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Mennonite Central Committee. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 2146 Main Street 339-5555
