LUKIAN (LUKE) LUBIANSKY July 8, 1919 December 11, 2006 Lukian Lubiansky of Vita, Manitoba passed away peacefully on December 11, 2006 at the age of 87 years at the Whispering Pines Lodge in Vita. Luke was born on July 8, 1919 in Szelpaky, Ternopil, Ukraine where he spent his youth and met his future wife, Ewhenia (Jean). He served in the Russian Army for four and a half years from 1940 to 1945. When the war was over, he rejoined Jean in Germany and they were married on March 11, 1948 in the city of Ulm. They spent the next year in England and immigrated to Canada in May 1949. They stayed with Luke's sister Mary in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan where their son Ehor was born. In the following year they moved to Winnipeg where Luke was employed as a tailor. They moved to a farm in Arbakka in 1954 where their son Jerry was born in 1956 and their son Boris in 1957. The family worked a mixed farm but Luke continued to work in Winnipeg for several years. He then found employment as a caretaker at Shevchenko School in Vita where he worked for a number of years until he retired in 1984. Luke continued to farm well into his eighties. Luke especially enjoyed getting together with friends and family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great story teller. He was especially proud of his five grandchildren and he looked forward to their visits. After Jean passed away in 2000, Luke lived on the farm for a year and a half. He then moved to Shady Oaks Lodge in Vita in 2002 where he made many friends. In April of this year, Luke moved to the Whispering Pines Lodge where he lived until his passing. Lukian was predeceased by his wife Jean, his infant daughter Anne, his parents Nicholas and Anne Lubiansky, his brothers Matt Lubiansky and Steve Pastushenko and his sister Mary Wawro. Luke leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Ehor (Barb), Jerry (Denise), and Boris (Sheila) Lubiansky and his five beloved grandchildren, Angela, Jennifer, Nick, Erin and Jared Lubiansky. He will also be sadly missed by his sister-in-law Lydia Pastushenko and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank all of Dad's friends, his home care workers and the staff of Shady Oaks Lodge for their many kindnesses and help. They would also like to thank Dr. Ahmad and the staff at the Vita and District Health Centre for their care and compassion. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Vita, Manitoba at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Father Greg J. Zubacz officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Vita Funeral Homes Vita Chapel Vita, Manitoba.
