TRUDY ROBINSON With deep sadness, we announce that Trudy Robinson passed away December 7, 2006 at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 71 surrounded by her family. Predeceased by brother Jack Spiller (Winnipeg) and sister Leba Daien (Herb) (Detroit), she is survived by her husband Bob, children Bruce (Vancouver) and Linda (Toronto) and brother Ellie (Detroit). Trudy was born and grew up in Winnipeg's north end. She married Bob in 1956 and as a lab technician helped support him until his graduation in 1961. She then worked in his office until her twins were born in 1962. In 1965, she began managing a family health care facility and by 1967 assumed management functions in a 2nd family business (A W). Later she assisted in the construction, design and furnishing of Holiday Haven Nursing Home in Winnipeg and eventually became its' administrator. Overcoming advanced ovarian cancer in 1972, and pancreatic cancer in 1995, both against overwhelming odds, she continued her management career until 1998. During 1965 - 1998 she ran always 1, sometimes 2, and often 3 businesses very efficiently. A humble individual, she declined to accept an award as female entrepreneur of the year. She was active in charity organizations, a life member of Hadassah and Ort. She spearheaded a committee of 20 women who successfully lobbied the government for funding for the building of CancerCare Manitoba. The foundation of her life was her love of family and friends. Throughout her long 34 year battle with cancer and a familial disease, muscular dystrophy, she fought with grace, dignity, great bravery and without complaint. A compassionate, caring and interested listener, she was embraced by a wide circle of friends. She was always concerned about the personal lives of friends and extended family. She was well loved. In the kingdom of heaven there is a special place for an angel like Trudy, and she has rightfully secured her seat in the front row. She will be dearly missed. Thank-you to Lebi M. and Cecilia G. for your outstanding care and many kindnesses during the final months. Finally, a very special thank-you to Dr. Jack Rusen for your frequent assistance and prompt responses to Trudy's every need. Appreciation to Dr. Clair Ramsey, nurse Pat Haines, Dr. A. Maksymiuk, nurses Jennifer Dunsford and Louise Letourneau. Pallbearers were Jim Weidman, Lorne Weidman, Terry Robinson, Sasha Kirshner, Harley Spiller and Michael Daien (Detroit). Honorary Pallbearers were Allen Goldstine and Frank Spivak. Donations to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3E OV9.
