WILLIAM (BILL) DAWYDUK Peacefully, at his home, on December 12 at the age of 86. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 57 years, Louise; children Steve, Tom and Barb, grandson Jamie, Bob, John, grandchildren Nik and Anna, Richard and Lesly, Gary and Eileen, grandchildren Ryan and Linzy, great granddaughter Haley, and grandson Jarrod. Bill was predeceased by his father Nicholas (1961), mother Annie (1976), and brother Steve (1993), all to whom he acted as a very devoted caregiver during their respective final days. In 2005, Bill shared his family's grief during the passing of daughter-in-law Ingrid. Following in the footsteps of his father, Bill was a dedicated employee of Ogilvie Flour Mills from 1939 to 1979, retiring as a first class engineer. He served our country for 4 years in the military, and was discharged in 1946 from his station in Ottawa. Bill enjoyed dancing and socializing with his wife, family, and friends, especially on Friday nights at the Legion. He loved to play kitchen bridge (employing his best shuffling tricks) and watch sporting events with the boys. Friends and family regarded him as a reliable jack-of-all-trades who could be counted upon to help with household projects or remedy just about any domestic mishap at a moment's notice. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than seeing his grandchildren. A loving husband, father, and very special poppa - he will be sadly missed. A private family service will be held. Friends and family are invited to share condolences and reminisce at a gathering thereafter at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nicholas and Annie Dawyduk Scholarship in Medicine and Ukrainian Studies, care of the University of Manitoba, F179 Extended Education Building.
