WILLIAM MITCHELL August 1, 1918 - December 13, 2006 William Mitchell passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at the Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg. He was 88 years old and a recent resident of the Middlechurch Home in West St. Paul. William Mitchell was born in Gonor, MB. In his early years he farmed and was a mink rancher in East St. Paul. Following his marriage to Helen in 1951, he moved to East Kildonan and worked for General Lumber and Building Supplies before joining Eaton's as a carpenter, where he retired. William enjoyed being outdoors the most, spending nearly 40 years at the family cottage in Wanasing Beach, picking mushrooms, blueberries and boating on Lake Winnipeg. He took great joy in taking his children, relatives and friends waterskiing. He also enjoyed gardening and was renowned for his prized tomato plants which he grew from seed. William was not overly demonstrative in his affections and solitary by nature but took his strength from the many gatherings of friends and family around the kitchen table whether it was at the cottage or at his home. He was also a hobby carpenter who crafted simple practical pieces that were appreciated by all who received them. William is survived by sons Tim (Anita), Dennis (Lotte) and daughter Lorna Kern (Garry); brother Tom (Vicki); sister Jean Semeniuk (Nick); grandchildren, Greg and Jenna Mitchell, Ray (Lisa), Clint and Tamara Kern, Terri O'Brien (Ken); three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Helen in April of 1999 and his son Ronald William in June of 1971. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 18 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 19 also at the chapel. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his five grandchildren Ray, Clint and Tamara Kern, Greg and Jenna Mitchell, as well as Ken O'Brien. The family wish to thank the caregivers of Cedarwood Home in Steinbach and Middlechurch Home for the care and attention shown father; with a special thanks to Dad's neighbours and Ivy for their thoughtfulness and compassion in his final years. In lieu of flowers, donations in William's memory may be made to Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, 280 Balderstone Road, West. St. Paul. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
