GAYE LYNN HAWRYLUK (nee CRUICKSHANK) 1949 - 2006 It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce that in spite of her valiant efforts, our beloved Gaye passed away peacefully on Tuesday at the Riverview Health Centre with her family by her side. She fought the good fight with courage and dignity. Gaye was predeceased by her father George, her step-father George Beverley, her special uncle Cliff Havercost, and other relatives. Gaye is survived by her children's father Marshall, daughter Keri Williams (Scott), son Tim Hawryluk (Christine Hanslet) and cherished granddaughter Danielle Hawryluk. She also leaves to mourn her passing, mother Verna Cruickshank Beverley, sister Cheryl Cruickshank, brothers, James Cruickshank and George Cruickshank (Tara), nieces Avery, Maggy and Sally Cruickshank, nephew Geoff Dodds (Sheldon Gardiner), special aunt Betty Havercost, very special friends Ken McKenzie and Gil Ragot and relatives from Winnipeg and across the Country. Gaye spent the first 19 years of her life in Elmwood and was educated at St. Alphonsus, David Thompson and Elmwood High Schools. After her marriage and the birth of her children she stayed at home and fulfilled the roles of wife and mother. She spent many summers at Falcon Lake with her children, where she made life long friends. After 15 years at home, she decided to re-enter the work force and held a variety of positions, the last being with the Province of Manitoba as Administrative Assistant in the Workplace Safety and Health Division. Gaye loved her job and made many friends there and it broke her heart to have to resign due to illness. Throughout her illness Gaye never complained or showed sadness in front of her friends and family. She held us up and we drew our strength from her. She was always up for an outing and could still laugh and joke. She was not afraid of dying. Her sadness came from the knowledge that she would have to leave us. Gaye lived her life the same way she faced death - with integrity, grace, dignity and always, a sense of humour. She is at peace. The family would like to thank Drs. Bertsch, Chowdhury, Navaratnum, the Staff of CancerCare Manitoba and the Staff at Riverview Health Centre for your kindness and compassion during Gaye's illness. We would also like to thank the Palliative Care Nurses Ann and Olga who visited and cared for Gaye, which made it possible for her to stay in her home until the day before her passing. Your kindness will not be forgotten. Also to Ken McKenzie and Gil Ragot, your help and support went far beyond the boundaries of friendship. Thank you. Thanks are also extended to family and friends who have been there for Gaye over the past 19 months with phone calls, rides, visits, words of encouragement, moral support and prayers. A light has gone out of our lives. Gaye enriched us all in so many ways. She is gone but her spirit will live on in everyone who knew and loved her. She will never be forgotten. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations in Gaye's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Cremation and private Family Interment has taken place. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Gaye's life will be held on Monday, December 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Inkster. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
