WILLIAM ROSS GERBRANDT Peacefully at the age of 75, on December 15, 2006 at the Betel Personal Care Home, dad passed away in his sleep after a long struggle with emphysema, COPD, and diabetes. He leaves to mourn, daughter Cheryl Hurley (Tim), son Dana (Helena), granddaughter Cayla, sister Margaret Klassen and sister-in-law Mary both of Winkler, brother-in-law John Neufeld (Maryls) of Minnesota, as well as many nieces, nephews, and special friends. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine in 1996, his parents Klass and Katherina Gerbrandt; one sister Sarah, her husband John P. Fehr and her second husband Peter Z. Klassen; brother Jake and his wife Anne Gerbrandt; brother Barney Gerbrandt; brother-in-law George J. Klassen; and three brothers in infancy. Dad was born on January 10, 1931 to Klass and Katherina Gerbrandt (nee Kehler) in Rosenort (now Rosetown). He received his education in Rosenort School. He worked on his father's farm until he took up work elsewhere. Dad was baptized in the Sommerfelder Mennonite Church by Bishop Peter Toews on May 15, 1951, and transferred to the Chortitzer Mennonite Church when he married Catherine Neufeld, daughter of John and Susie Neufeld of New Bothwell. They were married July 5, 1953, and were blessed with two children: daughter Cheryl Suzanne and son Dana Ross. They resided in Winnipeg for many years, where he worked for Soo Security Motorways, and later moved to Rosenfeld where they lived for a number of years before moving back to Winnipeg. After he retired, he had numerous stays in the hospital. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., with interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery.
