FRIMA RUTH WRIGHT Born June 19, 1911 in Winnipeg, she passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2006. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Harry in 1970. Frima is survived by her children, Errol and Jacqueline Wright of Winnipeg and Gerald and Nancy Wright of London, ON. She will always be remembered by her grandchildren, Leanne Wright, Michael Wright and Laurie Stein, Courtney and Ian Lederer of Toronto, Charles and Jill Wright of London and Jeffrey and Linh Wright of Chicago. Her five great-grandchildren, Simone, Maxine, Alexis, Joshua and Theo were the light of her life in later years. She is also survived by her dear sister Marion Laxer and sisters-in-law, Bernice Levine Rissin (Joe), Shirley Levine and many nieces and nephews. Frima graduated from the school of hard knocks . She began working as a teenager and finally retired at age 83. Frima built the Glass House, the Home of Crystal Splendour, into one of the most popular stores in downtown Winnipeg. She travelled Europe in the 1950s and 1960s as an independent entrepreneur to bring treasures to the store. Above all, Frima was a devoted mother and grandmother. The exceptional bond she had with her grandchildren was unique and priceless. Though none of them lived in Winnipeg in their adult years, she spoke to them on the phone about their life and encouraged them to meet every challenge head on. Her pishka box was always there for her family and the people in her extended circle for whom she cared so deeply. Everyone knew they could phone Bobi to put money in the pishka for good luck. This was a serious responsibility for her, as she wanted the best for those she loved. Frima, the eldest of eight children was the matriarch of the family and went beyond herself to ensure her family was taken care of. As a true Jewish Mother she was the best care package sender. What she could not make in her children and grandchildren's homes away from Winnipeg was sent in care packages. Frima knew just when a new supply of treats was needed! In reality, there was nothing Frima would not do for her family. She might have been a tough and assertive businesswoman, but her love for her family and her overwhelming generosity of heart are her legacy. Frima's loving, feisty spirit was an inspiration to others and though we will miss her we are left with powerful and rich memories. The family extends grateful thanks to Frima's wonderful caregivers, Anne and Tony, Carmen, Laurie, Marlene, Remi, Ruth, Ronnie, Sally and Sarah. If desired, donations in her memory may be made to the Frima Wright Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba or to a charity of your choice. The funeral will take place Sunday, December 17 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Please call the Chesed Shel Emes at 582-5088 for the time.
