Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD IAN GEORGE SINCLAIR On December 18, 2006, Donald Ian George Sinclair, formerly of Winnipeg and Melita, passed away at the Portage and District General Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Don was born on January 15, 1931 in Winnipeg, the son of Moray M. Sinclair and Madeline V. Sinclair (McCarthy). Don will be sadly missed by his family: wife Estelle; sons, Michael, Robert (Sandy and grandsons, Gregory and Dale); daughters, Joan Sinclair-Pion (Gerald and grandsons, Zachary and Erik), and Suzanne Wilson (Dr. Jack, granddaughter Kate, grandson Jackson); brother Dr. Colin Sinclair and family, and sister Judy Sinclair and family; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Don grew up in Winnipeg attending St. Ignatius School, St. Paul's Collegiate, St. Michael's College in Toronto, and Kelvin High School. After completion of his education at the University of Manitoba, Don taught high school and made many friends through his work with the Melita School staff. Don was active in local sports as a participant, coach and administrator. He took great joy in being a part of his children's sporting and educational activities. Don was always interested in politics and was active in local town council and associations at the Manitoba municipal level. Retirement in 1990 was filled with golfing, fishing, reading and traveling to see all his grandchildren. He was so proud of the six grandchildren and his greatest joy was to be a part of their lives. The grandchildren will remember Grandad for his mischievous nature and generous spirit. As well, trips to Palm Springs, California with family were a wonderful winter break. A stroke in 2004 slowed Grandad down, but he continued to golf and enjoyed his time with family. Dad faced his health problems with dignity and reserve, and he was an inspiration to his family. Grandad lived his life exactly as he wished, and was an example to all of us. Many hours were spent over coffee with friends, debating current events and the political climate. Winter months were whiled away by voracious reading he was known to read a large book in a single day, and never lost his thirst for knowledge. Summer months were spent at the Melita Golf Club, where Grandad would apply the same passionate zeal to his daily rounds of golf. The end of the day was spent on the patio with Estelle, with a cool drink, in quiet reflection and careful calculation to improve the next day's game. Grandad never conquered the game of golf, but he certainly mastered the art of living. The family extends special thanks to the Medical Ward staff at the Portage and District General Hospital for Grandad's compassionate care. A funeral service will be held at the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Parish Church in Portage la Prairie, 1125 Saskatchewan Ave. East on Friday, December 22, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. with Father Michael Wollbaum officiating. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Don's name to Heart and Stroke Foundation, c/o Catherine Newham, 103 Wilkinson Cres., Portage la Prairie, Manitoba R1N 1A7 Friends may leave a message of sympathy on our web site www.omegafuneralhome.com Dedicated to those we serve .
