Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNICK ZACHIDNIAK Suddenly, and peacefully, on Sunday, December 17, 2006 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Nick Zachidniak, aged 79 years of Selkirk. Besides his loving wife of 57 years, Ann, he leaves to mourn his son Leonard (Louise) and grandchildren, Jason and Shanon of San Angelo, Texas; daughter Sandra (Les Hadden) and grandchildren, Bradley and Pamela of Spruce Grove, Alberta; and son Lawrence (Holly) and grandchildren, Amber and Adam of Dryden, Ontario. He is also survived by his three sisters, Jean, Alice and Margaret. Nick was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and five sisters. Nick was born on December 7, 1927 in Garland, MB, where he was raised. At the age of 17 he moved to Selkirk. In 1949, he married Ann (Nizloski) and shortly after they operated a corner grocery store in Winnipeg. After five years in business, he worked many years as a bread salesman. In pre-retirement years, Nick worked in a butcher shop in Winnipeg. Nick was a faithful and dedicated member of the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was involved in the church committee and devoted his time to various maintenance activities for many, many years. He also enjoyed singing in the church choir and being a member of the Knights of Columbus. Nick enjoyed gardening, was always busy inside and outside the house, and making time to go on vacations in the motorhome. He always looked forward to his daily walks with his partner Frank and spending time with his coffee buddies at McDonald's. Nick's greatest joy was in the relationships he shared with his family. He was happiest when the whole family was able to be together. Prayers will be said on Thursday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk. Divine Liturgy will be held on Friday, December 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nick's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
