NORAH GUILE Peacefully on December 17, 2006, Norah R. Guile passed away at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 84. Norah is survived by her four children, Bob of Edmonton, Dennis of Lillooet, BC, Norma (Ed) Bergen, Dave (Donna) and daughter-in-law Pat Guile (Joe Proksz); grandchildren, Trevor Guile (Michelle), Kevin (Kelly) Guile, Shannon Guile, Adrienne Guile (Don Woodstock), Adam and Scott Bergen; four great-grandchildren Kendra, Julien, Aspyn and Asia; adopted great-grandchildren Megan, Cassandra and Haileigh; sister-in-law Nora Allan, brothers-in-law, Jerry (Jean) Hayes, Dennis (Mavis) Guile of Parksville, BC and Eric Guile; many nieces and nephews and her step-sister Flo and husband Pete Cheeseman of Weymouth, England. Norah was predeceased by husband Norman, sister-in-law Kathleen Hayes and brothers-in-law, Gerry Guile of Halifax and Hugh Allan. Norah was born in Portsmouth, England October 17, 1922. She met Norman during the Second World War and they married in England on June 7, 1945. She came to Canada with him when the war ended and they lived in Elmwood for a short time, finally settling on Clifton Street where they lived for 40 years and raised their family. In the late 1980's they moved to an apartment on Niakwa Rd. Mom will always be remembered for her volunteer work. She was active with the 112th Cub Pack in the 1960's and greatly involved with St. John Ambulance Brigade for more than 30 years both as a volunteer and an instructor. For her thousands of hours of volunteer service, she received the Order of Canada. She was a very active person, and enjoyed bowling for many years with leagues at Mosienko Lanes, Dakota Lanes and Polo Park Bowling Centre. She also enjoyed her involvement in the Appleton Estates Social Club where she and dad spent many evenings playing whist, cribbage and carpet bowling. Her love and concern for her family was evident by the many photos that filled her apartment. She loved her grandchildren and was very proud to be a great-grandma. Mom was a very strong-willed lady and tried very hard to maintain her independence, even during the last number of years when her health made this very difficult. She will be deeply missed by family, friends and many others whose hearts she has touched. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John Ambulance Brigade (St. John Opthalmic Hospital of Jerusalem c/o 535 Doreen St, R3B 3H5) or the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave. Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
