Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKAREN MAY CRAVEN 1945 - 2006 It is with great sadness after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, we announce the passing of our sister, aunt and friend, Karen Craven on December 18, 2006. Karen was predeceased by her parents; Duerward and Beatrice Craven. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Pat (Dennis) Desautels, Rogene Craven both of Winnipeg; brothers, Lyle (Fumie) Craven of Banff, and Robert (Helen) Craven of Johannesburg, South Africa. She will also be remembered by her nieces and nephews, Lauren, Kyle, Angela, Danielle, Brian and Paul. Karen was born July 5, 1945 the oldest of five children. She graduated university with a teaching degree and taught in various northern communities before accepting a position in Transcona, where she worked until she retired. Karen welcomed challenges and took a leave of absence for two years to teach with C.U.S.O. in Nigeria. She also spent many of her summers teaching with O.C.O.D. in St. Lucia and Guyana. Recently she spent one year in Thailand teaching English to young children. Karen loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was a very special person to her nieces and nephews and spent countless enjoyable hours with them. Karen enjoyed traveling, camping, visits to Riding Mountain National Park and doing puzzles. She's been described as a true friend with a kind and gentle nature. The family would like to thank Karen's numerous friends who offered support during her illness. Special thanks to Dr. Fatoye, Dr. Buchel and resident Aparna for their compassionate care. A memorial service will take place on Friday, December 22 at 2:00 p.m. at John Black United Church, 898 Henderson Hwy. with a reception to follow. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to C.U.S.O., 44 Eccles Street, Ottawa, ON K1R 6S4 or a charity of your choice.
