Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN CHRAPCHYNSKI (nee KOWALCHUK) Peacefully with her family at her side, Jean passed away at Red River Place in Selkirk at the age of 89 years on December 19, 2006. Jean is survived by her son Alex (Pauline), granddaughter Mary Anne (Wayne) Blahey, great-grandchildren, Pamela Blahey, Stuart (Candace) and great-great-grandchildren, Johnathon and Ashton, granddaughter Anna Johnson, great-granddaughter Carla (Jason) Unra, stepgrandson Paul Slywka, son John (Eva), grandson David (Betty) and great-grandchildren Amanda and Julia; grandsons, Wesley and Kevin; granddaughter Wanda (Joe) Ambeault and great-grandchildren, James and Cody; son Edward (Vivian), granddaughter Christa (Mike) Denoon, great-grandchildren, Sarah and Andrew Denoon; granddaughter Susan (Mike) Evans, great-grandchildren, Julia and Layla Evans; grandson Darryl; brothers, Steve (Mary) Kowalchuk and Willie Kowalchuk; sisters, Kathleen Hryciw, Jesse Kruchuk and Nellie Pitts; sisters-in-law, Mary Kowalchuk and Frances Kowalchuk; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband Nick; an infant daughter; son Jim; grandsons, Leslie John and Jeffrey James; parents, Alex and Anna Kowalchuk; brothers, John (Matilda), Harry, Mike, Peter and Nick (Ann); sisters, Mary (Walter) Hala and Stella (Bill) Bushell; sister-in-law Ann; brothers-in-law, John Kruchuk, Peter Hryciw and Frank Pitts. Mom was born June 27, 1917 to Anna and Alex Kowalchuk in the Inwood / Polson district. She married Nick Chrapchynski in November 1935 and farmed in Polson until 1944. They moved to Winnipeg for a short time and then back to the Chrapchynski homestead in 1945 and continued to farm until 1965. They retired to Komarno where Mom continued to work various jobs, the chip factory in Teulon, the Viking Hotel in Gimli, as well as hoeing and harvesting beets in Teulon. Upon retiring, she enjoyed her weekly Bingos, family gatherings and travelling to see family. In 1979, Jean and Nick moved to Selkirk, MB and had resided there since. They raised four sons and enjoyed their daughters-in-law and grandchildren to the fullest. Family was the most important in Mom's, Baba's and Great-Baba's life. God Bless you Mom, Baba and Great-Baba. Prayers will be held on Friday, December 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Teulon. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Komarno. Fr. Harry Chuckry will officiate. Her pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law, David, Wesley, Kevin, Mike, Darryl, and Mike. The family would like to thank Dr. Linden Schmidt and the staff at Red River Place for the kindness shown in caring for Jean over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jean's memory to the Parkinson's Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
