LAWRENCE EDWARD ROBERTSON VE4 LER Peacefully, on Saturday, December 16, 2006, Laurie passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 86 years. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan of 56 years of marriage in 2003. Laurie will be sadly missed by his six children, Penny Flock, Dale Hunt (Brian), Ted (Pat), Allan, Jayne Sims (Reg), Heather Grams (Art); grandchildren, Darcie (Shane), Corrie (Michael), Ainslie (Craig), Daven, Julie (Larry), Joel (Tamar), Carolyn, Colleen, Kelly, Lyndsey, Jayde, Jodie, Artara and Share, as well as 15 great-grandchildren; his brother Lyall and sisters, Arline and Adele will also miss him. Dad was born in Winnipeg on August 15, 1920. He lived in Morse Place and Elmwood during his childhood years. He served in the Second World War in England and continental Europe with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada for 5 years. After the war he met and married Joan and together they raised their family in St. James. Dad was a Federal Inspector for Weights and Measures and for Consumer Corporate Affairs most of his working life. Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling together especially going to the Silver Broom Curling Championships. During Dad's retirement years he continued to be Mr. Fix-it around the home, played the harmonica in the Philharmonic Orchestra and enjoyed walking his dog, Molly while visiting his neighbours on Baffin Crescent. Dad's declining health curtailed many of his activities but he still enjoyed listening to music and looked forward to visits with his family. In compliance with Dad's wishes, a private gathering of his family has been held. Special thanks to the staff at Sturgeon Creek Residence, Deer Lodge Centre (2 south and tower 5) for their compassion and kindness to Dad and also to the staff at the Grace Hospital for their gentle care and concern on the many occasions he was there over the last couple of years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Laurie's memory to the Salvation Army-Grace Hospital, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7 or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3.
