HAROLD SCHACHTER Harold Schachter passed away peacefully on December 10, 2006. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Talma ( Tommie ), and by his three brothers, Max, Benjamin and Eugene. He is survived by his children, Joan and Jack Rusen and Carole and Ken Medd; his grand-children, Rachel and Aaron Margolis, Amy and Daniel Samphir, Emily Medd and Charlie Medd; his great-grandchildren, Nicole, Mitchell and Coby; his sister-in-law Ricky Kanee Schachter; and by his many nieces and nephews. Harold was born in 1916 and attended schools in Winnipeg and then Brandon University. He worked in the family textile business and in sales until 1970 when he bought Dunn-Rite Food Products. He retired in 1984, the same year that his wife Tommie died. Harold was athletic, fun-loving, and easy-going with a passion for tennis, golf and bridge. He was always the initiator of good times. Life with Harold was spontaneous, interesting and an adventure. He loved to laugh, and he enjoyed each day to its fullest. Nobody could squeeze more minutes out of an hour than he could. Above all, Harold was a family man who was sensitive, considerate and generous. He gave unselfishly to his family, friends and community without any expectations of others. He accepted kindness with humility and gratitude. His life was also enriched by his dear friend, Helen Atnikov with whom he shared many happy times. His last years were spent at the Sharon Home where he was looked after with the utmost of dignity and respect. His family would like to thank his longtime caregiver Susie Deacon who became a true and trusted friend, as well as Jack Chemerika who accompanied Harold to family gatherings. Services were held at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on December 12. Pallbearers were Aaron Margolis, Daniel Samphir, Charlie Medd, Danny Schachter, Aubie Rusen and Joseph Diner. Harold was an inspiration to his family with his positive spin on life. He will be dearly and forever missed.
