Date of Passing: Dec 11, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTHONY MICHAEL CAPRI On Monday, December 11, 2006 Anthony (Tony) Capri passed away at the age of 97 at Grace Hospital. Predeceased by his dearly loved wife Wynne, Tony is survived by his daughters, Jill and Linda, son-in-law Charles and brother Mike. He leaves behind many who will miss him sadly, in particular his very good friend Margaret Watkins. Tony lived a long, happy and extremely active life. He grew up in Fort Rouge and from an early age was very involved in politics, first with the CCF and later with the NDP. In the 1930s, he ran several dance halls and had fond memories of the time he spent at Grand Beach. Tony's love of carpentry started at age 16 when he built his first cottage at Grand Beach. This interest in building remained with him throughout his life and he subsequently built cottages at Grand Marais, West Hawk Lake, and Star Lake and refurbished another in the Lake Winnipeg area. Tony worked for 35 years for the CNR until retiring at age 59. He then kept busy with volunteer work, his cottage, travel, golf and curling, and was still on the ice at age 92. During the war, he served in both the Army and the Navy and eventually went to Halifax to prepare the ships for D-Day. Those who knew him will remember Tony for his kindness, humour, optimism and great enjoyment of life. He was a person of strong social values who believed everyone could make a difference in this world. For this he will never be forgotten. The family would like to express its thanks to Lorraine and Dennis Murphy for always being there, to all the homecare managers, nurses and workers who made Tony's last years easier, to Dr. Young and Dr. Rumbolt for their exceptional understanding and consideration, and to all the staff at Grace Hospital. Cremation has taken place and a memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the Grace Hospital. Thomson Funeral Home 669 Broadway, 783-7211
