VIOLET BARGENDA 1910 - 2006 Peacefully on December 22, 2006 Violet Bargenda passed on at the age of 96. Mom was raised in Hadashville by her parents, Alex and Eleanor Shandroski. In 1933, Mom married her sweetheart John Bargenda. Violet's early married life was spent in a bush camp at mile 54 along the GWWD Railway. Dad cut firewood and telephone poles that would be sent to Winnipeg by rail. The closest store was Kozak's at Spruce Siding which was a two mile walk. Mom said life was good, the air was clean, there was lots of food like moose, deer, and of course perogies and home made bread. Mom always looked forward to taking the train into Winnipeg and spending the day shopping at Eaton's. After the bush work, Mom and Dad ran the General Store in Hadashville. Mom spent many hours tending the store while Dad got a job at the GWWD Railway where he eventually became section Forman. Mom and Dad eventually moved to the Green House (section house) across the swinging bridge in Hadashville. Mom became great friends with her neighbour Sadie Trowsdale. After Dad's retirement they moved just north of town and spent the remainder of their life there. Mom worked a few seasons at the Pineland Nursery. Mom spent her time gardening, baking, quilting, knitting and sewing. Many hours were spent volunteering with the Women's Institute and the local communities. Countless hours of perogie and cabbage roll making, quilting and a weekly visit to the local Bingo's were all part of her life. Mom was also an excellent cake decorator. She made beautiful Wedding and Anniversary cakes for family members and always gave from her heart. Mom was an excellent cook and we will cherish her old Ukrainian recipes. She also made the best Jack-fish patties and deer/moose burgers. Mom had a good attitude towards life and never wanted too much. Her favorite saying was what will be - will be ! Mom was known to many as Nanny or Auntie Violet and her home was always open to all her family. Not one visitor could leave her house without having a full course meal, a cookie or a Brandy. Mom loved having her great-grandchildren over. They always kept her on her toes and were always looking in the fridge for that special pot of Borscht or in the cookie jar for those special Butterscotch cookies. Mom had many interesting stories to tell. She could remember everything and everyone which made her an excellent information source for many people. Mom lived by herself until she was 91. She then moved into the Whitemouth Care Home where she spent the remainder of her life. Violet was predeceased by her husband John; granddaughter Tracy; parents, Alex and Eleanor; sister Mary and brothers, Joe, Mike, Julian, Walter, Nick and Frank. Left to mourn are her son Garry (Noreen); daughter Adeline (Kurt); and grandchildren, Chad (Debbie) Candice (Brad), Shelly (Colin), Tony and Kim (Andy). Great-grandchildren, Savannah, Tristen, Harlee and Ashley. Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held. In lieu of cards and flowers a personal donation can be made to the Whitemouth Personal Care Home, Whitemouth, MB R0E 2G0. Our family would like to thank all the staff at the care home for their excellent care over the past years. Special thanks to Ronalda. Forever in our Hearts Rest In Peace Nanny
