Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLIONEL LEONARD GURR Peacefully on December 24, 2006 in the St. Boniface General Hospital, Lionel Gurr passed from this life to the joy of eternal life. Lionel was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on May 28, 1928. In 1982 due to medical reasons he took early retirement from Seven Oaks School Division where he enjoyed a long career as a painter and decorator. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Lucille in 2004. From his immediate family, Lionel leaves to mourn his three sons: Brian and wife Kathy and their children, Shawna-Lynn, Riley and Travis; D'Arcy and wife Jean and their children Vanessa and Erin, as well as his youngest son Darrin. The Rite of Christian Burial for Lionel will include: Prayers and Viewing on Thursday, December 28 at 2:00 p.m. at The Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street presided over by Rev. W. Richard Arsenault. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place later in the day (December 28) at 7:30 p.m. at St. John Brebeuf Parish, 1707 St. John Brebeuf Place presided over by Lionel's son Rev. Darrin J. G. Gurr. The Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be presided over by Most Reverend V. James Weisgerber, Archbishop of Winnipeg. A private interment will take place at a later date. The family wishes to extend deepest gratitude to Lionel's physician, Dr. Kathy Pickard for her compassionate and committed care, as well as to Dr. Enish and his staff in ACF Medicine and Dr. Coates and the nursing staff on 4B at St. Boniface General Hospital.
