Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA STEVENSON Peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2006 at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre, Maria Stevenson passed away at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Martin (Oscar) Stevenson in November 1987, her brothers, Ali, Edwin, Victor and Oscar Freeman and sisters, Lauga Hurdal and Yanna Goodman. Remaining to cherish Maria's memory are her daughter Maureen and husband Paul Toonstra, son Robert (Bob) Stevenson and wife Rebecca Cowdery: her grandchildren Jason Toonstra (Shawna), Paula McDonald (Colin) and Martin and Alice Stevenson and great-grandchild Donavan, sister-in-law Evelyn Freeman and many nieces and nephews. She was born on July 7, 1918 in Otto District and lived in the Lundar area until her marriage to Oscar on May 1, 1941. She resided in Halifax and Victoria while he served overseas with the Navy. They returned to Winnipeg to live and raise their family. Maria retired from the Hudson Bay Company in 1983 after working for 19 years in the Cash Office. She was able to do some traveling and was especially thrilled at the opportunity to visit Iceland, as she was very proud of her Icelandic heritage. She moved to Oakland Gardens in 1990 where she was an active member of the Oakland Social Club and formed many special friendships. Maria will be remembered for her personal strength and her passion for her family. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and their accomplishments and supported them in every endeavour with unconditional love. She was a wonderful role model, always putting others' needs and desires before her own. She will be missed and remembered with love. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre for the care and compassion shown to Maria this past year. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301 - 352 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8 or to a charity of your choice.
