HELEN KATHERINE DAWSON (nee DZWINCHUK) It is with great sadness and deep sorrow that the family of Helen Dawson announces her peaceful passing in her home with her family by her side on Saturday, December 23, 2006. Helen succumbed to pancreatic cancer after battling the disease for over two years. Helen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away at the age of 66. Remaining to forever cherish Helen's memory are her husband Bob of 43 years, daughter Sheri and husband Kevin LeFevre, precious granddaughter Ryley, brother Ted Dzwinchuk and wife Joan and nephews Ted, Dean and Grant and great nephew Keaton, brother Dave Dzwinchuk, sister Janet and husband Joe Deimuth and nephew Jason and niece Jennifer, granddog Dawson, numerous cousins and friends. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Anne Dzwinchuk and her in-laws Harold and Ida Dawson. Helen was born on July 12, 1940 in Winnipeg. She attended Pinkham, Weston, Cecil Rhodes and Daniel McIntyre schools. She began her career at the Bank of Montreal in 1956 and retired from same in 1996. Helen and Bob were married on September 28, 1963. They moved into their home in 1968 and resided there until Helen's passing. Their daughter Sheri was born in 1972. Helen always welcomed everyone into her home. She was a wonderful cook and baker and always put out a huge spread even during her illness. She took great pride in her home which was always spotless. Helen loved spending time with her family and in particular her granddaughter Ryley. She commented that one of the best days of her life was the day Sheri and Kevin announced that they were expecting a baby. Her devotion to Ryley was endless even during Helen's illness. She was always willing to babysit and spend time with Ryley. Mom, we will always keep your memory alive for Ryley. Helen was extremely generous. She would buy a gift for any reason and there was always a card in the mail from Helen to mark any occasion. She loved traveling and her and Bob traveled throughout Canada and the US. She was a devoted shopper and always joked that The Bay would never go bankrupt as long as she was alive. Helen was an amazing woman with a huge heart who always put others first. She never complained during her illness and faced everyday with a smile. She was a true hero. Special thanks to the staff at Cancer Care St. Boniface Hospital in particular Dr. Wong, the WRHA Palliative Care Program and the numerous nurses who attended at her home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd (South of the Royal Canadian Mint). A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Cancercare Manitoba or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
