SOPHIE FIEN ESKOW May 7, 1913 - December 12, 2006 With great sadness, we announce the death of Sophie Eskow at the age of 93. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Plosker (Ozzie), Carole Faiman (Charles); grandchildren, Shayne Plosker (Michele), Rhea Plosker (Michael Carter), Barton Faiman (Michelle), Gregg Faiman (Karrie), Matthew Faiman (Beth); great-granddaughter Sophia; brother Sam Trachtenberg (Lilly) and brother-in-law Abe Palay. Born in Novaseletz, Bessarabia, Romania, she immigrated to Canada in 1926. She lived in North End Winnipeg where she married Harry Fien. Together they survived the depression and raised a family. After 32 years of marriage , Sophie was widowed at age 52. She later married Victor Eskow, who also predeceased her. Sophie worked for many years in ladies sportswear at Simpsons Sears at both Polo Park and Garden City. She was a member of Hadassah and the Stay young Choir. When her health deteriorated, she entered the Sharon Home where she enjoyed the company of her special friend Phillip Berman. The family wishes to thank the fourth floor nursing and support staff, Olga Myschyshyn and attendants Sally Estebal and Dyanne Raymundo for their care. If desired, donations may be made to the Therapeutic Recreation Fund of the Sharon Home, Kanee Center, 146 Magnus, or a charity of your choice. If success in life is measured by those whom you influence with love, devotion, motivation and direction, then Sophie Eskow has achieved great distinction. She had a graceful spirit, a giving heart and a beautiful soul.
