Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWIN CHARLES CHOWN It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our father Edwin Charles Chown on December 27, 2006. Ed was born in Moosomin, Saskatchewan on May 29, 1924 and moved to Elkhorn, Manitoba in 1926. He attended Elkhorn School until employed with CP Rail in 1942. He joined the army in 1943 and served in both Canada and overseas. After the war, Ed returned home and subsequently graduated from the Wheat City Business College in Brandon in 1947. Following this education, he returned to CP Rail where he was employed for many years in the Superintendent's Office retiring in 1984 after 42 years with the company. Ed married Josephine Read in June 1949 and enjoyed a long and loving relationship lasting over 53 years until her passing in 2002. Ed was very active and enjoyed a variety of sports throughout his life. As a young man he played fastball for the City of Brandon League where he pitched ball from 1947 1949 and played hockey with the CPR league. He both golfed and curled competitively over many years. As the years progressed, he still enjoyed being active and although he was unable to pursue former sports; he still maintained a healthy lifestyle including extensive daily walks. Ed was a very determined, hard working and resourceful man who was able to repair and build just about anything; and did. He was especially proud of the house he planned and built with Josephine in the spring of 1952 which was home until 2005 when advancing years and declining health required moving to a Personal Care Home in Winnipeg to be closer to family. Ed was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Family was important to him and he enjoyed opportunities to be together on vacations, special occasions and other events. He also enjoyed the many friendships made during their association with the United Church Couples Club, involvement with booster dances, bowling, bridge club and his coffee groups. Ed leaves to cherish his memory his son Greg (Kathy), daughter Cathy (Ted Hlynsky) and five much loved grandchildren: Adam and Laura Chown, Matthew, Michael, and Jennifer Hlynsky, all of Winnipeg, three sisters-in-law: Sophie Chown, Anne Chown, and Marion Laurie and several nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife Josephine in 2002, his parents, and four brothers: Leslie, Wilfred, Lloyd and Ernie. We want to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Oakview Place, Winnipeg and especially the staff of the 3rd floor for the kind and thoughtful care they gave Dad during the time he resided there. A Memorial Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Shannon McCarthy of Central United Church officiating. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edwin may be made to a charity of your choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
