WACLAW (JIM) WOJTAS Surrounded by loved ones, Waclaw (Jim) Wojtas peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 83 years. Left to forever cherish Waclaw's memory are his devoted wife and sweetheart Sylvia of 50 years of marriage; children, Marianne Staub, son-in-law Ken Staub, Cathy Wojtas and Vince Marciano. His most precious granddaughter Julie Staub, will forever miss him. In addition, he leaves his siblings, Helena Walichnowska (Stanislaw), Kazimierz Wojtas (Val), Wanda Wielgat (Adam) and their families. He will also be fondly remembered by his sons-in-affection , Don MacLelland and Keith Alexander. Waclaw was born in Bialystok, Poland in 1923. Forced from their home when the Second World War began, Waclaw and his family were taken to Siberia and later spent time in the Middle East. The family then went to England where Waclaw joined the British Army and was given the nickname Jim . He enjoyed sharing stories and memories of this time in his life. Coming to Canada in 1953, Waclaw met Sylvia who he often times described as the best thing that ever happened to me . He took pride in the fact that he was Polish and a war veteran. Waclaw was more proud; still, to be a Canadian. Having grown up on a game reserve, he loved animals and truly enjoyed caring for them as an animal technician at the University of Manitoba. In compliance with Waclaw wishes, a private gathering for immediate family has already been held. Our family would like to thank doctors, Lipinski and Boyd and the caring staff at Seven Oaks whose genuine compassion and dedication will never be forgotten. Donations in Waclaw's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
