MARGARET AUDREY KOUK (nee EVERETT) After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, with Dad, longtime friend Linda Cress and the Chaplin praying at her bedside, Mum passed away Monday, December 25, 2006, Christmas morning at the Grace Hospital. Margaret is survived by her sister Ivy Wing, and brother Howard Everett, both of Thunder Bay, ON. She was predeceased by her first husband, Richard Nash; mother Ellen and father Harvey; her sister Bernice Larabee and brother Bob Everett. Mum will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by husband Jim; daughter Nadene (Brian) Karasiuk; son Richard (Claudette) Kouk; daughter Barbara (Robert) Olson and her four grandchildren, Michael Kouk, Nicholas Karasiuk, Katherine (Katie) and Benjamin Olson. We will always remember our many family dinners and the special treats she baked for us. Mum loved spending weekends touring the Interlake, sightseeing, being in the country and sitting by the fire pit in the evening. She loved walking on the Harte trail, stitching and helping make quilts and earning her family reputation as The Javex Queen . Margaret was born in Fort William, ON on September 23, 1934. She was one of five children born to Harvey and Ellen Everett. The family lived for many years in Murillo where Mum received her education. On June 21, 1962, Margaret married James Eon Kouk with whom she would spend the next 44 years of her life with. Jim and Margaret spent the first seven years of their marriage raising their family in Thunder Bay. In August, 1970, the family moved to Winnipeg, residing in Westwood. The Kouk family home was a gathering spot where many friends and family members enjoyed Mum's world famous pizzas, BBQ dinners, gourmet meals and numerous great parties by the pool. Many lifetime friendships were formed with their neighbours on Whitegates. In 1989, Mum and Dad sold the family home and moved to a condominium in Charleswood, where they could spend more time with their friends, golfing at Breezy Bend Golf and Country Club. Undeniably, Grandma's greatest love was her four grandchildren. They were the center of her life. Each one was lovingly referred to as her favourite . Michael, the eldest, lived with Grandma and Grandpa for the past four years and has many precious memories that will live with him forever. Grandma was there throughout Michael's life, always giving of her love and encouragement. Nicholas thanks Grandma Margaret for her never ending encouragement and special hugs, for being there when he battled cancer and spending many special times with him at the Red Roof Inn on Lake of the Woods telling one of her many outdoor stories. Katie, Mum's only granddaughter, will miss those special moments that are often shared between a granddaughter and grandmother; in particular the chats they had while baking, learning to stitch and cooking. Benjamin, her youngest grandchild, will miss the times he was picked up at the bus stop after school and treated to Grandma's pickerel dinner. He will forever cherish the last hockey game Grandma and Aunty Ivy watched him play in November of this year. In accordance with Mum's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. We, the family, would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Zabolotny, the nurses and support staff from Four South at the Grace General Hospital, Dr. Czaykowski from CancerCare Manitoba, Dr. Rumbolt from the Assiniboine Clinic, and to all the nurses who made home visits. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret's memory to the Grace General Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. Rest in peace Mum. You will remain in our hearts forever. Margaret's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
