DARREN RUSSEL HAMPTON July 22, 1969 - December 28, 2006 On Thursday, December 28, 2006 Darren was called home to be with Jesus. Darren was dearly loved and will be sadly missed but always remembered by his family; father Henry, brother Henry Jr., sister Shelley Gaudard, nieces, Cory (Scott), Amber and Cassandra; great-nieces Breanna and Jenna; brother-in-law Louis Gaudard; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Darren was predeceased by his mother Arlene, November 5, 2002. Darren was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. He was very active and outgoing. Hockey and lacrosse were his favourite sports to play. At a young age Darren became a collector of sports memorabilia. He spent many summers at Victoria Beach, enjoying fishing and relaxing with his family. Darren graduated from Elmwood High School. He enrolled in computer courses at Winnipeg South Tech to further his education. He was a computer whiz and enjoyed playing video games and music as a past time. Darren's life changed when he was struck by a car in November, 1997. The head injuries suffered caused a lot of disabilities. Despite his prognosis and disabilities, he showed a lot of courage, fighting to be as independent as possible. He was able to learn to communicate with his family with his computer. He was able to laugh a lot. He continued to watch sports and collect sports memorabilia, and he enjoyed visitors. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, January 3 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Stephens Anglican Church at 220 Helmsdale Ave., Winnipeg, MB, with Rev. Diane Guilford officiating. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wayside Gospel Chapel, Grand Marais, MB (Fey Rd. off Hwy. 59) with Ron Hampton officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Jude's Anglican Cemetery. Pallbearers are Kevin, Kerry and Randy Hampton, Danny Boyko, Neil Eyolfson and Todd Recksiedler. The family would like to extent their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the people that have been involved in Darren's care, especially Eleanor, Katherine, Sheila, Blaine and Oliver. Also a very special thank you to Shelley, you have gone above and beyond what most sisters would have in the endless love and devotion you have shown while caring for Darren. IF YOU KNEW If you knew where I am standing If you could see the sights I see If you could hear the angels singing The songs they sing eternally. If you knew the one I'm holding Could see the smiles He smiles at me If you knew where I am resting You would not cry for me. I'm resting in the arms of Jesus No other place I would rather be So if you shed a tear Please don't shed it for me For if you knew where I am resting You would not cry for me. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Darren, I am sorry I did not attend, not because I did not cherish our friendship, rather I wanted to cherish the memories of the good times we shared together. I remember you playing floor hockey with the grade Sixers in Glenelm, and you were in Grade 2. A testament to your athletic abilities. I remember you having two pieces of cake at my birthday party, having a bite from each, and always having icing on your face. I remember you climbing over the metal fence, and getting your pant leg caught on the top ring, you looking at us upside down, laughing, and calling for us to get you down. Darren, it has been some time now, and I still remember. - Posted by: D (Friend) on: Nov 28, 2015
