JOHN SUL September 22, 1913 - January 1, 2007 It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our dear Dad at the Selkirk General Hospital with his family at his side, at the age of 93. Dad leaves to mourn his twin daughters, Joy (Murray) Borkowsky of St. Andrews, Gay Sul of Winnipeg, and daughter Evelyn (Ralph) Wilson of Kenora; grandchildren, Cheryl (Don) Smith of Red Lake, Terry (Amy) Wilson of Kenora and four great-grandchildren, Matt, Connor, William and Ben. Also many nieces and nephews in Manitoba, British Columbia, Ontario and Cape Cod. John was predeceased by his wife Stella in 1985; his parents Samuel and Pearl; brothers, Alec, Mike and Andy; sisters, Kathleen, Mary, Rose and Ann. He was predeceased by his good friend and crib partner Victor Bretchka in 2004. Dad was born in East Selkirk and in 1937 mined at Red Eagle Mines in Red Lake, Pioneer Gold Mine in B.C. and Sudbury Mines. He returned and helped in the building of the bridge between East Selkirk and Selkirk. He served overseas in the Second World War from 1943 to 1946. He met and married Stella Rokosh (nee Kologinski) in 1952 and they were happily married for 32 years. After 33 years at the Manitoba Rolling Mills, he retired in 1972. He was so happy to be invited to the MRM's 100th Anniversary this past summer where he visited with many co-workers. His retirement years were busy helping Joy and Gay with their homes and yards. He was especially busy helping Joy with her business for the past 20 years. He worked at the E.S. Bingo until he was 90. He was a member of the Gordon Howard Seniors Centre, Royal Canadian Legion and Garson Seniors Centre where he enjoyed whist drives and meeting so many special friends. Cribbage was his favourite game. Until September 13, he drove faithfully to MacDonald's for his morning and afternoon coffee where he visited with friends and enjoyed seeing Lorraine, Maggie and staff. At 89, Dad purchased his new truck and started his pallet repair business. He loved working with wood, using his new saws and was always building something. He loved planting his garden every spring and then re-planting everything the deer ate for the rest of the season. He was generous in giving most of his produce away. When Dad found it more difficult to walk any distance, he relied on his son-in-law, Murray, whom he loved to pieces, to plant his 50 lb. bag of seed potatoes and load his pallets. Dad will be remembered for his quiet and gentle ways. He always had a smile, a quick wit and a great sense of humour. He was always willing to lend a hand and had the mind of a 50 year old and refused to act his age. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Prayers will be said at Gilbart's Funeral Home, Thursday, January 4 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, East Selkirk on Friday, January 5 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Jerry Talarski presiding. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
