Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLANGINA (LEONA) BOROWSKI (nee DZIUBINSKI) August 26, 1917 - December 31, 2006 It is with great sadness and deep sorrow, the family of Leona Borowski announces the peaceful passing of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, at St. Boniface Hospital on Sunday, December 31, 2006. Leona was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Annie (nee Bobesiuk), brothers, Joe and Ted, and sister Minnie. Leona will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her three daughters and their spouses: Lorraine (Lorri) Heyn (Doug) of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Lenore Roberts (Dennis) of Calgary, and Francine Collyer (Terry) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Richard Heyn (Astrid) of Skedsmokorset, Norway, Loni Heyn of Dallas, Texas, Robert (Bob) Heyn of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kevin Roberts (Arlene) of Calgary, Colin Roberts (Denise McNeil) of Calgary, Kimberly Siemens (nee Collyer) (James) of Cardiff, Wales and Darren Collyer (Andrea) of Winnipeg. Leona was blessed with nine great-grandchildren, Thomas and Elise Heyn; Athena, Cade and Quinn McNeil-Roberts; and Nicholas, Ambrose, Chloe and Dominic Siemens. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Leona was a life time active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Branch 141, Royal Canadian Legion, Winnipeg. She held various positions within the Ladies Auxiliary and served on the Colour Party and Membership Committee. She enjoyed participating in the Legion's many activities, particularly the bingo evenings and teas. Leona stayed home in her early married life raising her family, but when her nest was empty she started a new career in food preparation at the Paddlewheel Restaurant, Hudson's Bay store in downtown Winnipeg. She enjoyed almost 20 years at The Bay before she retired, and in that time received many commendations for her friendly, efficient service. Leona was a great listener, enjoyed meeting new people and made friends wherever she went. Our mother, Leona, was very happy she managed to stay in her house, tending her vegetable garden in summer and enjoying the company of her dog, Buttons, until her 86th year when she became a resident of Lions Place in Winnipeg. During the last year, failing health caused Leona to be in and out of hospital several times while being a resident of Calvary Place. Mom made many good friends while at Calvary Place and the family would like to thank the wonderful staff of 2 South for their care and concern. Also, the family would like to thank the doctors and great staff of the St. Boniface Hospital, especially on 5E, for their care and compassion during the last two weeks. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 114 McGregor, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok, celebrant. A short reception will follow at the Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Branch 141, 618 Selkirk. A private family interment will be at Chapel Lawn. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make a donation in Leona's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, the Lung Association of Manitoba, or a charity of their choice. During the past year Leona and her youngest daughter, Francine, had become very close while spending much time together sharing events of their days. Mom you were a very strong and determined woman, but you had a loving heart and a gentle soul, and you will be greatly missed by all. You have earned your rest and remember we carry your heart in our hearts. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
