MARY EMMA JANE SWAN Peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2006 our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Sister-in-Law, Mary Emma Jane Swan went on to join her husband Chief Raymond Robert Swan. Mom (Mary) was born on February 16, 1940 and was raised by her grandparents Andrew and Isabella Spence in Vogar, MB. She married Raymond on May 19, 1960 and together they raised nine children, two grandchildren and others who lived with them in their home on the Lake Manitoba Treaty Two First Nation. She enjoyed the company of others, she loved to laugh, tease, joke, and sometimes give you a gentle, loving slap. Mom also played guitar and liked to sing Johnny Can't Come Home , which was one of her favourites. She was also very keen on prayer, she prayed daily and always had a Rosary on her. Mom recited the Hail Mary as she was leaving the physical world to eternal life. Mom will be sadly missed by her sons, Melvin Swan, Brabant and wife Melanie, Dana Swan; daughters, Margaret and husband Kelvin Pakoo, Sheila and husband Morris Shannacappo, Noella and friend Abby Viner; 27 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; her brother Brian Monkman; sisters, Gladys Pelletier, Lena Dunning; father-in-law Brabant Swan; brothers-in-law, Clifford (Lorie), Larry (Glenna), and Donald Swan; sisters-in-law, Myra Chippeway (Archie), Elsie Maytwayashing, Rose West (Mike), Kathleen Swan (Howard), Peggy Swan, Flora Swan, also numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Chief Raymond Swan in 1993; sons, Robert, Raymond Jr.; daughter Lisa Swan; grandson Michael McCartan; her mother Mary-Anne Spence; her father Lawrence Monkman; sisters, Flora, Dorothy and Hazel; her mother-in-law Margaret Swan; brothers- in-law, Louis and Ronald Swan; sister-in-law Doreen West, also her grandparents Andrew and Isabella Spence. Wake services were held on Wednesday, January 3 and Thursday, January 4, 2007. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church with Father Garry Killen and Father Robert Brinn officiating. Interment to follow in the Lake Manitoba Reserve Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be sons, Melvin, Dana and Brabant; nephew Darcy; cousin Craig, and brother-in-law Clifford Swan. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Lezley, Darren, Robert, Devrey, Garret, Paul, John, Kelly, Jacqueline, Michael, Wyatt, April, Drennan, Lacey, Nichole, Jules, Shannon, Shaneen, Chantel, Kayleen, Phil, Dorian, Morgan, Ray and Storm, Sherissa and Adam; great-grandchildren, Liam and Carson Swan, Christian Paul, and Sage Beaulieau. The family would like to thank Lake Manitoba First Nation Chief and Council and community members, the doctors and nurses at Selkirk General Hospital and the staff at MAM-A-WI Centre for all their help and support.
