Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRANK LUND 1923 - 2006 Frank was the first born son of Frank Lund and Edith (Rattenbury) on November 8, 1923 in St. Vital, MB. He would later move to VLA land on Vernon Road in St. James, where he grew up with his brother Harry, helping with the small market garden that sustained the family. Trips down to Old Market Square in Winnipeg were part of his upbringing. Like his father before him, he could not resist the lure of military service and, in 1941, at age 17, he headed to war. He followed quickly the first landing in France, among fallen comrades still awash in the Atlantic surf on the beaches of Normandy. It would shape his character for the rest of his life. He returned home in 1945 and was reunited with the love of his life, Violet Pettitt, in Ninette, MB. They married in 1946 and soon he began his lifelong career with the Winnipeg Police Service. Police work suited his disciplined character and loyalty to service and, after retirement in 1978 as Sergeant of Detectives, he would be remembered for the respect he had for his peers and they for him. A retrospective of his lifelong interests can best be summarized in a few apt words; he was an adventurer, gunner, paint mixer, policeman, garage builder, boat builder, cabinet maker, barber, dog breeder, rabbit farmer, shoemaker, gardener, model builder, fisherman, bowl turner, squirrel control officer, mouse catcher, duck carver, bird watcher, money manager, winemaker, bookworm, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather..... Frank passed away on December 28, 2006. He is survived by his devoted wife Violet; two sons, Brian (Edmée) and Gordon (Marilyn); four grandchildren, Michelle Hamilton (Shane), Remi (Julie), Shawn (Sean), and Garnett; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Brinley and Myles Hamilton; as well as his brother Harry (Elva); and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff on 5th floor of the Victoria Hospital for their care and support. At Frank's request, cremation has taken place and a private gathering was held by the family in his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations on Frank's behalf may be made to the Victoria General Hospital Research Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB, R3T 9Z9.
