RITA COSMAN With great sadness, we announce the passing of Rita Cosman on December 13, 2006 at the Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Lois Weidman and Barbara Cosman; son-in-law Lorne Weidman; daughter-in-law Willow Rector; grandchildren, Danielle and Justin Weidman; and son Geoffrey (Diane) Cosman. Rita also leaves to mourn her sister, Beatrice Porter, and her two nieces, Shelley Burton and Laurie Robinson, all of Los Angeles. Rita was predeceased by her loving husband, Meyer, on August 12, 2006. Rita was born in Winnipeg on May 11, 1929 and was the youngest daughter of Allan and Belle Chechik. She spent much of her childhood growing up in the north end of Winnipeg with her sister Beatrice. Even after Beatrice married and moved to Los Angeles, the sisters remained close. Indeed, family was the most important thing in Rita's life and when she married Meyer in 1952, she happily began to focus on building her own family. Rita and Meyer were blessed with three children, and they spent many happy years together in their home on Matheson Avenue and at Winnipeg Beach. Later in life, they took time to travel together. Rita loved adventure and the thrill of experiencing something new. When at home, Rita enjoyed playing mahjong with her girlfriends and she also spent a great deal of time cooking and baking for family dinners. She was a gracious hostess who loved entertaining and planning parties for their many friends. As a result of declining health, Rita moved into the Tuxedo Villa in 2002. Many thanks to the staff of Station 3 for their wonderful care and kindness. A graveside service was held at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on December 14, 2006. Pallbearers were Lorne Weidman, Jim Weidman, Mitchell Cosman, Zak Cosman, Marty Halprin, and Gary Levine. Donations in Rita's memory can be made to the Rita and Meyer Cosman Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, 477-7525.
