HELENA S. ROY (nee SCHALLA) Peacefully, with family at her side, Helena passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2006, in Delta BC, while spending the holiday season with two of her sons. Helena was predeceased by her husband Philippe Roy; her parents, (John and Nathalie Schalla); siblings Elven Schalla and Alvina Rosner; brother-in laws Gus Rosner, Ferdinand Freund and Abe Guenther; and nephew Wayne Freund. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Roger and wife Gloria, children Christine and Mitchell; her son Murray and wife Jill, children Christopher and Taylor; her son Peter and wife Anne, children Jennifer, and Phillip; her brothers and sisters, Mary (Emile Krentz), Roseline, Louise (Jake Falk), Henry (Anne), Pauline(John Reimer), William (Tina), Marlene (Jim Suderman), Emily (Benjamin Klassen); and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Helena was born April 3, 1925, in Steinbach, Mb. She grew up with 10 brothers and sisters who she cherished and spent many days on the farm living her life to the fullest. The lure of the big city became too much for her, so, she came to live in Winnipeg and start her career. This is where she fell in love with the man of her dreams, Philippe, and they married on January 17, 1959. After her marriage, Helena spent the remainder of her life raising and cherishing her family, always keeping her faith in God close to her heart. Her true life enjoyments were spending time with family and friends, playing with her grandkids, and going out to play Bingo! She will be sorely missed by all who all have been touched by her compassion and convictions. Viewing will take place on Thursday January 11, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, located at 357 Des Meurons. As per Helena's wishes, her interment will take place at the St. Vital Cemetery located on River Rd. following the service.
