Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY CRAWFORD (nee SNELL) Dorothy Crawford passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2007, with her daughter at her side, at Lions Personal Care Home. She was in her 91st year. She is survived by her daughter, Valerie (Lindsay Allan) Ramsay of Winnipeg, and granddaughters, Krista (Seoul, South Korea) and Jillian of Winnipeg. She has several nieces and nephews scattered across Canada. She was predeceased by her father Harry Snell and her mother Gertrude; her husband Harold Crawford in 1991; her four sisters, Anne, Mae, Grace and Isabelle; and her brother Jim. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg, February 17, 1916, the second youngest in the family. Her life was shaped by growing up in the Great Depression. She attended Isaac Brock School and then went to work at T. Eaton Co. It was there she met and fell in love with Harold and married him during the war years. While he was overseas she lived in Victoria and, upon his return, they settled in Winnipeg. They often told stories of happy years curling and golfing with friends. Summers were spent at Winnipeg Beach with family. Their daughter arrived in 1951 and shortly after that they were transferred to Yorkton, Saskatchewan, which started a history of many moves. Dorothy always missed her family in Winnipeg, so they returned, in 1964 and rebuilt their lives here. Dorothy was a homemaker and became accomplished at sewing and knitting. She had quite a flair for decorating. For the past six years Dorothy has resided at Lions Manor Personal Care Home. Companionship and recreation was always available and she was heard to say that she felt she was always busy and that she had never had so many friends . These were happy years for Dorothy. Gradually life had been becoming increasingly difficult as her health failed. The family will always be grateful for the dignity Dorothy was treated with and the fact she was allowed to make her own choices about how her days would be spent. She could be quite feisty at times and had a reputation for keeping everyone on their toes. Dorothy had a special bond with Brenda, due to the fact they had both been there since the beginning . The entire staff at Lion's and in particular the third floor staff provided loving competent care all the years she was there, and especially over the past difficult week. We thank each and every one. Her special friends Joanne Watkins and Laurie Yanchishyn are fondly remembered for the individual time and attention they devoted to Dorothy. In recent years, her special treats were Tim Horton's Iced Cappuccino and Salisbury House wafer pies. At Dorothy's request cremation has taken place. A memorial Service will be held Tuesday evening, January 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. Interment will take place at a later date. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lion's Personal Care Center, 320 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, R3B 2W6. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J COUTU CO.
