EVELYN DOERKSEN (REIMER)

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYN DOERKSEN (nee REIMER) December 20, 1924 - January 3, 2007 Peacefully, on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB, at the age of 82. Evelyn was born in Prairie Rose, MB in the Lorette Hospital on December 20, 1924. She grew up in Prairie Rose, went to high school in Steinbach, and took her L.P.N. (nursing) training in Winnipeg, MB. She moved to Vancouver, BC in 1947 and worked at the St. Paul's Hospital on Burrard Street. That same year she married Bernie Doerksen in Vancouver, and they lived in Vancouver, Bralorne, and Chilliwack, BC for the next six years, where both their children were born. In 1952 the family moved to Old Tom's Farm on Townline Road, near Steinbach, where they lived for the next 10 years. Eventually they moved into the town of Steinbach where they lived on Oak Crescent for the next 45 years. She resumed her nursing career at the Bethesda Hospital in 1961 and retired after 15 years, mostly spent in the maternity ward where she lovingly cared for her patients. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Peter H. W. Reimer and Anna Kroeker of Steinbach, and one brother-in-law Mort Ross of Toronto, ON. She was married to her loving husband, Bernie Doerksen of Steinbach for 58 years. She leaves behind two daughters, Beverly Dunne, Vancouver, and Joan (Harry) Fehr of Lake Riviera, MB; two grandsons, Sean Fehr (Janice Froese) of Cherry Hill (Steinbach), and Lee Fehr (Danielle Denis), Vancouver; four great-granddaughters, Carollyne Fehr, Sarah Fehr, Mercedes Fehr of Steinbach, and Jasmine Weiss of Kelowna, BC. She is lovingly remembered by four siblings, Victor (Helen) Reimer, Winnipeg, MB, Tina (Joe) Semenick, Pine River, MB, Marion (Eddie) Nightingale, Winnipeg, and Lorna Ross of Toronto. She is also remembered forever by her sister-in-law Martha (Ken) Griffith (nee Doerksen) of Sechelt, BC, and her nieces and nephews, many friends and fellow nurses. A United Church funeral service with Rev. Stephen Johann presiding will take place at Steinbach Funeral Home, Steinbach on Saturday, January 6 at 2:00 p.m. Viewing will be before the service.
